The built-in "Resize Partition" feature will help you:
- Shrink partition to reduce partition size and generate some unallocated space.
- Move partition to make the unallocated space locate behind the partition you want to extend.
- Extend partition, especially for system drive, to solve low disk space problem for peak performance.
In general, there are three cases when you would like to resize an existing NTFS or FAT partition on a single hard drive as below:
Tips: Before resizing partition, data backup is important and recommended.
How to extend a partition?
Note:
- If there is already some contiguous unallocated space behind the partition you want to extend, e.g. [C drive][unallocated space][D drive], please skip the step 2, 3, 4 and follow the step 1, 5, 6.
- If there is already some unallocated space but NOT contiguous, e.g. [C drive][D drive][unallocated space], please follow how to merge unallocated space to C drive.
Step1. Choose the right edition of Partition Magic Software and install it. After that, launch it (here is
Partition Assistant Server).
Step2. Right click on D partition and select "
Resize Partition" in the drop-down menu.
Step3. In the pop-up window, position the mouse pointer on the left handle and drag the slider bar rightwards to shrink D partition.
Step4. Click "OK". Then you will find there is a block of unallocated space on the right side of C drive.
Step5. Right click on C drive and select "
Resize Partition". In the pop-up window, position the mouse pointer on the right handle and drag the slider bar rightwards to extend C drive.
Step6. Click "OK". To avoid improper manipulation, any operations will not be saved to hard disk partition immediately. All of them will be kept in "Pending Operations" until you click "
Apply" button on the toolbar.
As ALL-IN-ONE partition manager and powerful disk management utility, Partition Magic Software also allows you to merge partitions, split partition, allocate free space, copy partition, copy disk, create partition, format partition, delete partition, convert FAT to NTFS on MBR and GPT disk and much more… Free download the trial version and try out before you buy full version.

3. In the pop-up window, position the mouse pointer on the right handle and drag the slider bar leftwards to shrink partition.
4. Click "OK". You will preview the shrunken D partition and a block of unallocated space. To save the changes, do remember to click "
Apply" on the toolbar.
