Increase Partition Size in Windows Server 2003 without Losing Data

Most of applications are confused about partition without enough space. Is there any method to increase partition size for Server 2003 without reinstalling Operating System? The way to increase partition size with Server partition manager software

Take “increase C drive size” as an example.

Step 1: Launch Partition Assistant Server and select F partition. Then, click “Resize/Move Partition” in the left navigation and the below window will be displayed.

Step 2: After finishing the step one, you just drag left handle rightwards to shrink drive F to generate unallocated space.

Step 3: Utilize the unallocated space from partition F to increase C drive size.

Step 4: Please click “Apply” after confirming every step you did, all the steps you did will be displayed in the “Pending Operations” column, and it will take some time to complete successfully.

Another method to increase non-system partition with diskpart.exe

Step 1: Left click “start”>“run”>enter “cmd”, type “diskpart” to enter command line interface.
Step 2: Type “list volume” to display existing volumes on disks.
Step 3: Type “select volume 3”, the number is the volume you want to extend.
Step 4: Type “extend size=1024”.

And then you will receive a message that states Diskpart successfully extended the volume.

Note: There must be unallocated space behind the non-system partition that you selected partition, otherwise only by shrinking partition can generate the unallocated space

Diskpart.exe is only used to increase non-system partition size and can’t increase system partition size, you could download demo version to see how it works in Windows Sever 2003.
